Hi, I’m Catherine

I’m a travel writer, journalist and digital content specialist.

I write about travel for print and online outlets, and I help travel brands tell their story and grow their business through exceptional custom content.

I haven’t always been a writer – I’ve worked at major music labels and behind the counter at record stores, and spent the better part of a year serving oligarchs and minor nobility at an extremely fancy London cake shop. But when I got my first job in magazines in 2010, I knew that writing was where I belonged. I’ve been putting words on the page ever since.

I’m a writer and editor for both online and print, with a portfolio encompassing magazine features, celebrity profiles, news writing, restaurant reviews and more. I spent five years as a writer and online editor for the veteran New Zealand magazine Metro, and another seven at the news and culture website The Spinoff, where I was deputy editor. There I commissioned articles on everything from Australian politics to New Zealand television to Indian cooking, and copy edited hundreds of thousands of words on almost any subject you can think of. These days, though, I’m primarily a travel writer with a focus on luxury travel, urban destinations and food.

My writing portfolio includes international and domestic travel features for magazines including Metro, Dish, The Listener, Kia Ora, North and South, The Spinoff, Australian Women's Weekly, and Next.

I’ve written travel content for brands including Virgin Australia and the Singapore Tourism Board, and I’m most proud of my five-year relationship with the travel company Flight Centre, for whom I’ve created more than a hundred pieces of written content, while also editing its print magazine Wanderlust.

I’m always open to opportunities in copywriting, editing, freelance writing and digital content creation. So let’s chat.
